WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (Purdue Sports) — Purdue true freshman defensive end George Karlaftis was named second-team All-Big Ten by the conference media to highlight the Boilermakers' defensive and special teams honorees in the postseason. Karlaftis also garnered honorable mention recognition from the conference coaches.
Joining Karlaftis with honorable mention accolades were graduate transfer linebacker Ben Holt (coaches and media), junior defensive end Derrick Barnes (coaches), redshirt freshman cornerback Cory Trice (media) and junior kicker J.D. Dellinger (coaches and media).
The conference office additionally announced junior wide receiver Jackson Anthrop as the Purdue recipient of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award.
The Big Ten will announce the offensive player awards Wednesday beginning at 5 p.m. ET on BTN.
All-Big Ten Honorees at a Glance
Jackson Anthrop – Finished third on the team with 37 receptions for 340 yards and one touchdown ... served as Purdue's primary kickoff (14-228 yards) and punt return (5-26 yards) specialist … had 12 carries for 48 yards.
Derrick Barnes – Second on the team with 63 total tackles (47-16), including 11.0 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks … tied with teammate George Karlaftis for the team lead and tied for 11th in the Big Ten in sacks … also broke up a pair of passes and forced and recovered a fumble.
J.D. Dellinger – Finished 13 of 16 on field goal attempts and a perfect 35 for 35 on PATs ... field goal percentage of 81.3 was fourth in school history (minimum 1 attempt per game) … 67.8 percent of his kickoffs went for touchbacks … enters his senior season 33 of 45 on field goal attempts … 33 career field goals place him fifth in school history … 73.3 career field goal percentage is third in school annals.
Ben Holt – Led Purdue with 114 total tackles (66-48), including 6.0 tackles for loss and one sack … topped team in tackles in eight of 12 games … finished second in Big Ten and tied for 18th nationally with an average of 9.5 tackles per game … most tackles in a 12-game regular season since Anthony Heygood finished with 114 in 2008 … had the most tackles in a game by a Boilermaker since 1997 (17 vs. TCU on Sept. 14) … also broke up a pair of passes.
George Karlaftis – Finished the season third on the Boilermakers with 54 total tackles (30-24), including 17.0 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks … TFL total was the most by a Boilermaker in a season since current Carolina Panthers' defensive tackle Kawann Short wrapped up his junior year with 17.0 in 2011 … sack total was the highest at Purdue since current Washington Redskins' outside linebacker Ryan Kerrigan concluded his collegiate career with 12.5 in 2010 … Karlaftis tied for third in the Big Ten in TFLs and tied for 11th in sacks during the regular season.
Cory Trice – Tied for second in the Big Ten with three interceptions … returned a pick 37 yards for a touchdown vs. Maryland on Oct. 12 … finished with 35 total tackles (29-6), including one tackle for loss.
