CHANDLER, Ariz. (WLFI) — After the NCAA canceled the Baton Rouge, Louisiana regional tournament, Purdue women's golf was sent home with an unsatisfying end to the 2020-2021 season. The top six seeds advanced, and 18 teams were automatically eliminated.
It seemed that the season was over, until an exhibition tournament was proposed by Barstool Sports on Twitter, and all affected teams were invited. On Monday, the NCAA approved the exhibition tournament. Teams will play at the Whirlwind Golf Club in Chandler, Arizona. The first Let Them Play Classic will take place this Thursday and Friday. Results will be unofficial, but the event will be in compliance with NCAA regulations.
Purdue will send five athletes to compete as a team and individually. The Boilers were among the first to accept an invite to the event.
Ashley Kozlowski, Danielle Du Toit, Sifat Sagoo, Kan Bunnabodee, and Inez Wanamarta will represent Purdue in the 13 team, 46 athlete tournament.
Purdue and Mississippi State are offering support in the form their NCAA compliance offices for the event.
