OMAHA, Neb. (WLFI) — No. 7 seed Purdue volleyball topped the No. 10 seed Oregon, 3-1 (25-17, 25-16, 22-25, 26-24) in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA volleyball tournament on Sunday in Omaha, Nebraska.
Purdue will move on to the Elite 8 for the first time since 2013.
Caitlyn Newton led the Boilers with 17 Kills
Hayley Bush added 50 assists in the victory.
Purdue opened the match on a 9-2 run, forcing Oregon to use both of its timeouts. The Boilers did not sacrifice a lead in the opening set of play, and claimed victory 25-17.
Set two was much closer in the early going, with Oregon taking its first lead of the outing, 5-4. Purdue quickly answered back with a Caitlyn Newton ace, followed by strong net play to force another early timeout from the Ducks. Purdue took the second set 25-16.
The third set featured 13 ties. Oregon reached set point at 24-19, but Purdue went on a 3-0 run to make it 24-22. Oregon forced a 4th set on a kill.
Purdue closed out the fourth set, 26-24.
The Boilers will play the 2 seed Kentucky in the Regional Finals (Elite 8) on Monday at 9pm.
