WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) -- Purdue University leaders said they are changing cleaning operations throughout campus to stop the spread of COVID-19.

The facilities operations director, Ryan Gallagher, said disinfecting will take place consistently during the day.

As part of the school's cleaning schedules, all touch points must be sterilized around the clock.

This includes door handles, elevator buttons and stairway railings.

There will also be self-service cleaning supplies available in all classrooms.

Gallagher said the custodial staff may cause delays.

"I think it is necessary in order to hit the reset button," said Gallagher. "Disinfect those things in the middle of the day as they are being touched. You might see something such as a 15 minute or 20 minute restroom closure in some areas while we disinfect some of those restrooms in the middle of the day."

Gallagher said hand sanitizer will be widely available throughout campus.

There will also be physical barriers placed like plexiglass in classrooms and dining facilities.
