WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — Boilermakers have a new Miss Purdue University. Amanda Coy is walking home with more than $4,000 in scholarships, and a mission to make a difference.

“I'm so thrilled to represent my university, not only this year around Purdue's campus, but at Miss Indiana as well as work on community relations and my own personal platform,” said Coy.

Coy is a sophomore studying Health Science Pre-Professional with a concentration in pre-med. You can find her on the football field as the 'Girl in Black' in Purdue's All American Marching Band.

“As Miss Purdue, I get to represent Purdue University at a wide-range of appearances throughout my year at my own personal platform experiences as well as the ones that are available on campus through Greek life and through other activities that will be going on,” said Coy.

As a busy student, Coy said deciding to run for Miss Purdue wasn't an easy choice but the process was well worth it.

“At first it was really stressful we had a lot of paperwork we had to get. At first, I was like I'm not sure," said Coy. "One of my best friends Alicia Dennie (Miss Purdue University 2019) was currently Miss Purdue and she's had an absolute blast within her year and so I'm just going to give it a go, why not, and so with each step of the way I just became more focused, more driven and more excited to compete,” said Coy.

From old friends to new friends made during the competition, she's also thankful for the ones who've been there since day one.

“Thank you, mom, thank you, dad, they're so supportive and encouraging and the ones who really pushed me to try and compete for Miss Purdue,” said Coy.

Her parents Molly and Todd Coy said she's fitting for the title.

“Outgoing, spirited, determined, academically focused and dedicated,” said Coy’s parents. “She's constantly involved in student activities and really loves to give back to her community. So it's a perfect fit to be Miss Purdue 2020.”

Coy also won an award for the top GPA among the 20 other girls, with a 4.0.

She will compete for the title of Miss Indiana in June.
