WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) -- A Purdue education fund is rewarding a Purdue junior for reaching a milestone and it was all by luck.
Mangiaracina become the 1,000th student to submit his application for Back a Boiler.
Now the program is cutting Kai Mangiaracina's income share agreement in half, which according the program, is at least saving him $5,000.
Back a Boiler is an alternative to federal and private student loans.
Mangiaracina's reaction to the big news said it all.
"It's a dream come true," said Mangiaracina. "I was always hoping something like this would happen. I'm never the one that's like you get this. You just keep on crawling you know. I'm just ecstatic."
The announcement was a surprise for Mangiaracina.
Back a Boiler has disbursed more than $13 million in funding.
