WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — Greater Lafayette came together to run, walk, or jog for a cause Saturday.

The Purdue University Center for Cancer Research hosted its annual Challenge 5k. Nearly 2,000 people showed up for the race, which is a new challenge record.

Those who attended or donated for today's race raised around $100,000. Purdue Football head coach Jeff Brohm was in attendance along with many players. Quarterback Elijah Sindelar said he's proud to be a part of events like the Challenge each year.

"And it's such a cool thing to see so many people come together for a good cause and personally I lost my grandfather to pancreatic cancer and to see so many people come together and fight this thing together, it's something special," Sindelar said.

Since the race began in 2008, nearly $815,000 has been raised for cancer research.
