LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — A report of people pointing firearms leads police on a pursuit near Sagamore Parkway and State Road 25. According to police, around 6 p.m. police responded to a report of a red pickup truck with occupants who were pointing a firearm at a passing motorist. Police located the truck traveling northbound I-65 near the 170 mile marker.
Police said they followed the truck as it exited I-65 at the State Road 25 exit, where a traffic stop was initiated due to police observing several traffic violations. The truck ran a red light and headed south on State Road 25. The truck crashed into multiple cars as it continued running red lights heading toward Sagamore Parkway.
The truck continued through Sagamore, hitting additional cars as it ran the red light, and went south on Schuyler Avenue. Once the truck reached 20th Street, in a nearby alley, three male occupants fled the truck on foot. Police pursued the driver of the truck and located him a short distance away, attempting to gain entry into another vehicle. The other two occupants of the truck were located a short time later by other officers.
Police state that all three occupants of the truck are juveniles.
A search warrant was issued, police said they located a Berretta handgun inside the truck.
Initial charges for the three juveniles included: Criminal Recklessness, Resisting Law Enforcement, Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Crash, Possession of Marijuana, Pointing a Handgun, Possession of a Handgun without a License, Reckless Driving, Aggressive Driving, and Intimidation.
