MONTICELLO, Ind. (WLFI) — Several homeowners in Monticello are lucky to be okay after 80-thousand pounds of corn spilled onto their homes. Around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday morning on U-S 24 near Riverside Drive, White County Deputies say a truck carrying the corn lost control on a curve and crashed onto its side.
The crash snapped a utility pole in half and caused some minor damage to the homes. The road was shut down for about an hour as crews fix the pole and move the truck.
The driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Brittany Sturgeon says she saw and heard the whole thing happen.
"I heard the crash and I came out as he was tipping and then a big dust of corn dust came flying at the door and this way," said Sturgeon.
Deputies say speed may have caused the crash. and they were not sure how long it would take to clean up the thousands of pounds of corn.
