One child dead, one critically injured after falling into Boone County pond

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a drowning in Boone County.

BOONE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) — The Boone County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a drowning in Boone County. According to officials, a 911 call was received Wednesday around 11:45 a.m. The caller reported two children fell into a pond in the 11000 block of West County Road 500 South and were not breathing. Authorities arrived on the scene and found family members performing CPR.

The three-year child was transported to Riley Hospital in Indianapolis by Boone County EMS. She is in critical condition.

A five-year child was transported to Granville Wells Elementary to await a St. Vincent Hospital Stat Flight helicopter for transport. She died from her injuries.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources and the Indiana Department of Child Services are investigating the drowning along with the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.

The names of the girls have not been released.
