LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Tippecanoe County Coroner has released the name of the shooting victim found in a house fire over the weekend. Police released the identity of the stabbing victim connected to the investigation earlier Monday. According to police, the investigation is being treated as a homicide and arson.

Tippecanoe County Coroner Donna Avolt said the victim is Ronald L. Whiles. Preliminary results of his autopsy reveal Whiles died from multiple gunshot wounds. Avolt would not reveal where the wounds were since this is an active investigation. She has ruled his death a homicide.

The stabbing victim, Thomas Day, is in critical but stable condition after being transported to an Indianapolis hospital. Police have determined that Day and the deceased victim were both living in the home where the fire occurred.

As we previously reported, Lafayette police responded to a call that a man had been stabbed in the 800 Block of South 31st Street around 6 a.m. Sunday. The caller, now identified as Day, told police he was stabbed and that the home was on fire. The Lafayette Fire Department found a person dead inside the home upon arrival.

Police say they are unable to provide a description of the suspect at this time but the suspect or suspects should be considered armed and dangerous and are still at large.

Anyone with any information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Lafayette Police Department at 765-807-1200 or through the anonymous WeTIP hotline at 800-78-CRIME.
