LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI)- Main Street in Lafayette will soon be home to a new five-story multi-use building. It will be located in the 600 block of Main street. Currently, the location is a pay parking lot that sits across the street from Lafayette Brewing Company.
The five-story building will have 98 apartments with studio, one and two-bedroom apartments available. There will also be 10,000 square feet of retail space available as well. There will be a parking garage attached with 114 spaces.
Most of those spots will be for the apartments but some of them will be for the retail space and the public. Dennis Carson the Economic Development Director for Lafayette says adding more retail space and apartments is good for business and the downtown community.
"It's best for business and activity downtown to have these kinds of infill spots these blank underutilized lots built into something that has people and activity in them," said Carson.
The development is expected to get full approval from the city council in early March. The city hopes to break ground shortly after.
The pay lot will close to the public at the end of the month.
