TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) -- A new app is allowing Tippecanoe County residents to send pictures, videos and tips to the Sheriff's Office 24/7.

SaferWatch allows people to report suspicious activity, threats and concerns through the free program available for all platforms.

This includes cell phones, tablets and computers.

Any information submitted will automatically be routed to the 911 center who routes that to the proper department.

Sheriff Bob Goldsmith said this application does not replace 911, rather it gives the community better two-way communication with county law enforcement.

"Here's the thing say something say something, that is what SaferWatch says," said Goldsmith. "We need to communicate with our citizens and this is another tool for them to be able to communicate with us."

The Tippecanoe School Corporation will also be using the app.

SaferWatch allows educators and other administrators on the app to press a digital panic button that alerts 911 immediately.

It tracks GPS and 911 operators can talk directly to whoever reported the situation.

The superintendent of TSC, Dr. Scott Hanback released this statement regarding SaferWatch:

"The panic button feature will serve as a nice compliment to our existing safety measures and protocols in the district."

Faith Christian Schools will also be utilizing SaferWatch.
