WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Purdue students and staff will have a new dining option this fall!
A new food center will be on the 1st floor of the Aspire Apartment complex - which is currently under construction. Discovery Park is partnering with National Food Hall, of Dallas, Texas, on the project. National Food Hall President Pat Garza says they saw a great opportunity.
"We saw tremendous potential to bring great products, and great food offerings," said Garza. "This new phenomenon called 'Food Halls' which we hope to see as a business model moving forward across campuses across the United States,"
The eatery – Crave Food Hall will be home to nine food stall operators.
"What we've kind of set out to do is to expand not just your typical offerings of pizza and burgers but were going to introduce international flavors-like a Neapolitan style type pizza," added Garza.
The stalls include a variety of options such as craft beer, tacos, and gelato.
"You're not going to walk in and see one brand you're going to walk in and see nine brands," says Garza. “The taco place is going to look completely different from the burger place, and so on,"
The hall opens in mid-august just in time for students to come back to school.
"So we're looking at hiring 150 to 200 people and that is for all of the nine-which includes eight food stalls and a bar."
Discovery Park District Coordinator, Jeremy Slater says this brings a whole new concept to the district.
"It creates an opportunity in the West side of campus that doesn't have a lot of food options,” stated Slater. “This is another option for us within the Discovery Park District,"
The Hall will host a job fair on Thursday, July 25th from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Purdue's Marriott Hall.
