WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — The city of West Lafayette is adding trails to a growing area of Discovery Park.
Challenger Avenue is off Yeager Road, just north of Kalberer Road.
What used to be a cornfield is now being developed as an extension of the park.
On Wednesday, the redevelopment commission approved a nearly $109,000 project to add more trails to the area.
Mayor John Dennis said it's a continuation of a much needed trail system in the city.
"When you do any kind of survey of what people want, it transitions from decade to decade," Dennis said. "They used to want to have safe communities with a lot of amenities. Now they want to make sure that they have those outdoor recreational opportunities so they can walk, they can push strollers on, they can ride their bikes."
The project will also add a lift station access road to the area, and Dennis said work will likely start the first week of October.
