WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — Despite a career-high 31 points from Kayana Traylor, the Purdue women's basketball team fell 76-73 on the road at Michigan State. The Spartans were lifted to victory by a last-second 3-pointer by Tory Ozment.

Traylor was relentless attacking the basket and setting up from outside, going 10-of-20 from the field, 4-of-7 from distance and 7-of-8 at the line. The junior also totaled five assists and three steals in the complete-game performance. It marked the fifth 30-point performance by a Boilermaker in the last six seasons.

Brooke Moore added 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting. The Boilermakers (6-13, 3-12) posted a 44.1% clip from the field and went 8-of-22 from outside.

Defensively, Purdue stymied Nia Clouden for Michigan State (12-6, 7-6). The junior came in averaging 19.9 points per game, good for third in the Big Ten. She finished with just six points, her lowest output of the year.

The Boilermakers forced 17 Michigan State turnovers and flipped them into 22 points, while the Spartans scored 13 points off 16 Purdue giveaways.

The Boilermakers had to shake off a slow start to open the game. Michigan State built up an early 11-3 advantage, before Moore and Madison Layden connected on back-to-back triples to cut the gap to two. The Spartans then closed the frame scoring 11 of the next 13 points.

Traylor took over in the second period, outing scoring Michigan State on her own 16-13. The junior tallied 11 of Purdue's first 13 points in the frame. The Boilermakers shot 50% over the second 10 minutes and connected on 4-of-9 triples. Rokia Doumbia and Traylor capped an 11-2 Purdue run at the end of the half that gave Purdue a 37-35 lead.

Despite a 38.7% clip from the field, Purdue went 6-of-15 from distance and committed just seven turnovers, while converting 12 Michigan State turnovers into 14 points.

Both sides traded blows in the third quarter without creating much separation. Cassidy Hardin buried a triple with 43 seconds left in the frame to give Purdue a lead that it carried for much of the fourth quarter.

The Spartans trimmed Purdue's lead down to one with a 3-pointer midway through, but Moore put a stop to any Michigan State run, scoring eight straight points to open a nine-point lead.

Following Moore's solo run, Michigan State roared back over the final three minutes with a 14-2 run. Purdue's only came from Traylor at the line with 1:17 to play. The Spartans tied the game on a Clouden jumper with 1:02 to play, before Ozment's game-winner at the horn.
