A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday (Nov. 6) to remember and honor the life and accomplishments of Purdue President Emeritus Steven Beering. Purdue faculty, staff, and retirees are invited to attend the service virtually via live stream.
Beering died April 3, 2020; he was 87 years old. Under Beering’s leadership (1983-2000), Purdue expanded its international efforts, grew its liberal arts programs, promoted diversity, greened and beautified the campus, added 20 major buildings, and took fundraising to new levels. At the time of Beering’s retirement, his name had appeared on the diplomas of more than half of the University's living alumni. He called them all — alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends — the "Purdue family."
