LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — Memberships are up at the Columbian Park Zoo.
It now has more than 1,500 memberships since opening for the season.
Lafayette Parks and Recreation Marketing Coordinator Bridgett Haro said even more people joined after the penguins arrived.
Members were able to get a sneak peek at the new exhibit, and Haro thinks it encouraged more people to get memberships.
"That's what we're going to see for future things that we bring to the zoo and future events is that these members get these perks, and it's something that you'll want to go ahead and be a part of," Haro said.
The park is hosting a Labor Day Weekend Free Family Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 4.
Pedal boat rides, train rides, and zoo admission is free.
The event will include a live performance from Scott Greeson and Trouble on Monday at 2:00 p.m.
