CARROLL COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - Jana Conn is one of several running for the Carroll Consolidated School Board. As we previously reported, three candidates are teaming up to run for the board, including the former principal of Carroll Elementary School.
Conn will be running against Chris Dyer from that group. Both are challenging current board member Ryan Allbaugh for the Burlington District seat.
Conn is a teacher who worked at Carroll Schools for 26 years. She now teaches at Logansport Middle School. She hopes working in another school district will help bring some outside perspective and new ideas to Carroll's school board.
She ultimately moved her family to the Carroll Consolidated School District. She wants to give back to the community that taught her so much. She also wants to bring the perspective of an educator to the board.
"It's my chance to serve them," she said. "And It's my chance to be the bridge between what really looks good on paper and what's really happening in the classroom."
She wants to focus on making connections between the board and the teachers.
"In a small community, it's something that you are going to be involved with these people and when you have those relationships, it makes such a difference," she said.
Patrick Hickner and David Bordner's seats are also up for election. However, Bordner is not re-running. We are in contact with Hickner and Allbaugh to talk about their election platforms.
