WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — A Purdue University professor who studies military families wanted to share some meaningful ways to celebrate Memorial Day amid a pandemic.
Shelley MacDermid Wadsworth said this weekend is about sharing stories.
Even though this year's holiday will look a little different, it's important to remember those who have given the ultimate sacrifice.
Another way to commemorate the holiday is to become an archivist and transcribe veteran's records.
MacDermid Wadsworth said it's wise to use this weekend to honor those fighting for our country.
"Spending some time in reflection is always good and making ourselves more aware I think is also is good," said MacDermid Wadsworth. "For example people do not know we have 45,000 National Guard members in service of the pandemic."
MacDermid Wadsworth encourages people to follow all social distancing guideline if they plan on visiting a cemetery for Memorial Day.
