Marion, Ind. (WLFI) — McCutcheon made its first appearance in a regional since 2015 on Saturday.
It was short-lived.
The Mavericks fell to Fort Wayne Carroll 68-38 in a Class 4A regional semifinal at Bill Green Arena.
Teresa Maggio led McCutcheon with 14 points. DayLynn Thornton had nine. Caitlyn Miller chipped in eight.
Jeff Knoy's group trailed the Chargers 19-14 after the first quarter. It was down by 10 at the half.
Things went from bad to worse.
Mayra Farrell exited the game in the second with a knee injury. The junior guard did not return.
Farrell's absence was missed. The Mavericks were held without a field goal the entire third quarter.
Carroll entered the contest on a 21-game winning streak. The Chargers will face Homestead for a regional championship.
McCutcheon's season comes to an end. The Mavericks finish with a 13-6 record. They graduate four seniors: Heather Johnson, Thornton, Haleigh Butler and Ashley Griffith.
