FRANKFORT, Ind. (WLFI) - The City of Frankfort has a new Mayor-Elect. Former City Clerk Treasurer Judy Sheets won the mayoral caucus vote held on Saturday.
As we previously reported, current Mayor Chris McBarnes announced he is stepping down from his position at the end of January to pursue his dream of working as the executive director of a wilderness group in Wyoming.
Sheets went up against Frankfort Board of Works member Kenny Estes and Frankfort City Councilman Eric Woods. She won on the third precinct committee vote with 12 out of 18 votes.
She is the second female mayor in Frankfort's history. Sheets officially becomes the mayor at 12:01pm on Monday March 2nd.
McBarnes said he supports Sheets 100% and will work with her over the next week to ensure a smooth transition.
