TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) — Tippecanoe School Corporation is celebrating Mayflower Mill Elementary Principal Shannon Cauble.
She was selected as principal of the year within the west-central Indiana district, District 4. This district covers a total of nine counties including Benton, Carroll, Cass, Clinton, Fountain, Montgomery, Tippecanoe, Warren, and White Counties.
She was nominated through the Indiana Association of School Principals.
Mayflower Mill is a school that serves many families living below the poverty line. Cauble said she's worked hard to be a source for families in need and this win means a lot to her.
"I'm willing to do whatever it takes and so if that's whatever it takes for kids or whatever it takes for staff or families, somebody needs food or shoes or anything, I'm always willing to find them the resources," said Cauble.
She said, being named principal of the year has shown her the importance of focusing on more than just academics as a school leader.
"Education is about your relationships and it's about your connection and it's about making memories together," said Cauble. "It's more than test scores and so I think the biggest thing that could come out of this is that people know that the connections matter."
Cauble said this accomplishment belongs to the entire school.
"Because I'm recognized, I feel like my whole school is recognized for all the things that my teachers do, and my aides, and my parents, and I think just shining a light on all the good things that are happening here is really important."
She has been a principal at Mayflower Mill for seven years. Cauble is now in the running to become the statewide principal of the year.
