WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (Purdue Sports) — The Dick Butkus Award announced that fifth-year senior Markus Bailey has been named to its preseason watch list. Bailey was a semifinalist for the award last season.
The Butkus Award is presented annually to the nation's best linebacker. Semifinalists will be named Nov. 4, finalists Nov. 25, and winners on or before Dec. 10. Appearing on the watch list is not a requirement to win. Bailey was a semifinalist for the award last season.
Bailey, a native of Columbus, Ohio, enters his final season at Purdue 18th in school history in career tackles (313), tied for 13th in solo tackles (210) and tied for 16th in sacks (12.5). He led the Boilermakers with 115 total tackles last season, including 9.0 for loss with a team-high 5.5 sacks. Bailey was voted captain by his teammates prior to last season.
