LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — A Lafayette man is facing charges after allegedly kidnapping and strangling a woman. According to police, Lorenzo Smith was driving near the State Street Bridge in Lafayette with a woman in the passenger seat.
The woman said she tried getting out of several times, but Smith kept pulling her hair to get her back in the vehicle. The woman says she managed to get out of the car and tried to run, but Smith got out, then started to strangle her. The woman says she blacked out for a minute. She has been taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Smith faces criminal charges including kidnapping (level 4 felony), domestic battery (level 5 felony), domestic battery resulting in moderate bodily injury (level 6 felony), two counts of strangulation (level 6,5 felony), and criminal confinement (level 4 felony).
