WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - The West Lafayette Police Department is investigating a shooting on April 17 at Cumberland Park during a party. 21 year old Amara Diomande was sent to an Indianapolis hospital for treatment on a gunshot wound in his leg.
The shooting occurred around 6:30 p.m. According to party attendee Adi Singh, around 60 people were at the party, which was supposed to be a fun end of the school year celebration.
"It was just like a get together because the semester is ending," Singh said.
"Everyone just wanted to get together and like a lot of people are vaccinated now so we though it was like the perfect time to get together."
Alcohol was at the party even though park signs say it is prohibited. Singh said people were drinking and dancing when the situation turned sour.
"Not a lot of people heard it but like someone started like shouting that there was like a shooting and that's when everybody started evacuating," Singh said.
Singh says there were no signs that somebody was going to be shot.
"I never saw anybody fighting, we did not see anyone you know having an argument, it was so random , it happened out of nowhere," Singh said.
No arrests have been made in the incident. Anybody with information is encouraged to call the West Lafayette Police Department at 765-775-5200 or their tip line 1-800-78-CRIME.
