WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — Teresa Maggio collected a late basket and a free throw to seal a sectional championship victory over Harrison, 45-43, on Saturday night in May Gymnasium.
The Mavericks led for 31 minutes, until an Olivia Lowry three-pointer gave Harrison a one point advantage.
Maggio's game winning basket and free throw cap off a 25 performance on the night.
"We've been preparing for like a close game situation this whole week, knowing that Harrison and us have always played close games," said Maggio. "I think we'll have all the confidence in the world going into regionals."
McCutcheon tacks a sectional title onto its first ever conference championship. The Mavericks advance to the regional round of the state tournament for the first time since the 2014-2015 season.
Fort Wayne Carroll will square off with McCutcheon next Saturday at the Marion regional at 10am. The winner of that game will play the winner of Noblesville vs. Homestead at 8pm.
