CASS COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) — Logansport businesses are showing their support for fallen Marine Corporal Humberto Sanchez.
"You hear these stories a lot, but then all of a sudden they said, 'One of them is from Logansport,'" said Logansport business owner Jerry Arnold.
When Arnold heard about the death of Marine Cpl. Humberto Sanchez, he wanted to help.
"I thought, you know, let's do something for the family," he said.
The Logansport business owner didn't know Sanchez, but decided to set up a savings account for the family.
Arnold donated $1000 to get it started, and said it's the least he can do.
"It's a horrible thing," Arnold said. "You feel sorry for the family. People don't realize how horrible this is until you have to go through it yourself."
Other businesses are stepping up too.
Morgan Rozzi said her family's restaurant is donating $1000 to the fund, and the business is also giving Sanchez's family a $500 gift card.
"He's just done so much for our community, for our country in general, and it's important that we support his family in any way that we can," she said.
Rozzi said the fundraiser is just the beginning of what she anticipates to be a wave of support for Sanchez's family.
"We have a strong community and sometimes you don't know how close we really can be until we're put into situations like this," Rozzi said. "It's sad, but we're always, always coming together to support each other and pick each other up. We're one big family."
"The family could use some support just to show them that we care about them," Arnold added.
The fund is set up through Security Federal Saving Bank, and checks should be written to the Humberto Sanchez Memorial Fund.
Donations are accepted at any branch or mailed to the bank at P.O. Box 420, Logansport, Indiana 46947.
