LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI)-Loeb Stadium is one step closer to being complete. Thursday stadium seats were installed. Once the seats are fully installed 2,600 people will be able to enjoy the baseball games that will be played here.
1,910 of those will be fixed lower level seats next to the field. However, the mayor says this stadium is about more than baseball.
They plan to use the stadium for concerts.. other sporting events like soccer and community events. The mayor did make a big announcementThursday.
According to Lafayette Mayor Tony Roswarski, the Purdue Baseball team will also be using the field in the near future.
"The Purdue University baseball team will be coming over here in January and February Maybe even in March to hold some of their pre-season practices over here at the Loeb Stadium," said Mayor Roswarki.
The Mayor says the artificial turf they have on the field allows for teams to play no matter the weather conditions.
The next step to finishing Loeb Stadium will be to finish building the suits as well as installing the new video board.
The mayor says the video board will allow for Movie nights and possibly even some Purdue sports watch parties once things get back to normal.
He says the stadium is on track to be finished in either December or January with a grand opening set for sometime next spring.
