1935-36 saw an extreme, very cold, snowy winter ranking up with some of the greats in an overall warmer, drier decade. It was then proceeded by the Great Flood of 1936 with the wettest February day on record at Greater Lafayette. In a complete turn of events, 1936 became notorious for being the hottest, driest summer on record for the area.
1936 was one extreme year. Not only was it a very bad winter with bitter cold & heavy snow, but the summer was brutally & historically hot & dry with all-time temperature record completely obliterated, only to be followed by historic flooding in the winter of 1936-37.
