LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI)—Three years ago the Lafayette Police Department started a podcast. It's brought to listeners by the Community Outreach Unit and moderated by the current Sergeant over the unit which is Sgt. Ian O'Shields.
"I listen to podcasts daily, often, multiple times a day," said O'Shields. "So they are just a great format to where people can push out information, they can have conversations. "
Episodes are recorded monthly. With topics ranging from crime statistics to crime prevention and everything in between, it's an inside look into what's happening at the LPD.
"There's so much we do as far as outreach is concerned that people don't know about," said O'Shields. "So any way that we can get the word out we are going to do it."
O'Shields said he wants people to engage and connect through this podcast.
"Really in an ideal world I would like, I want to use this platform for people to reach out and say hey, do an episode on this, I'd love to hear about this," said O'Shields.
He said the podcast is a part of building a relationship with the community the department serves.
"So if someone is listening to this please reach out to me and if you have a thought or an idea about a guest we should have or a conversation we should have I'd be more than happy to make that happen," said O'Shields.
Lafayette Police are releasing a new episode today. Today's episode is focused around School Resource Officers with special guest Captain Brian Phillips. Click here to listen.
