WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - The Greater Lafayette League of Women Voters wants to make sure all Purdue students have the chance to vote in next month's elections.
The League announced today that it will help students obtain Purdue's new IDs through a fundraiser.
This will allow students to vote without paying the $10 fee. The campaign's goal is $10,000. So far the League has raised 30-percent of that.
The League's chairman of Voter Services, Ken Jones says it's important to make sure all students are given the chance to cast a vote.
"Voting is a right, it's important that Purdue students, all the citizens of Tippecanoe County have access to the polls and can cast a vote," said Jones.
Jones believes all students should be active in our local government.
“We know that there are West Lafayette Council districts that are entirely made up of student residents and so, they have a voice and their voice is important to this community," said Jones.
