LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) -- Leadership Lafayette is calling on the community to put volunteering at the forefront. The organization is launching its Lafayette Volunteer Engagement website on Thursday, May 13.
This launch will also kick off its virtual volunteer expo, which will be showcasing more than 20 different local non-profits. If you log on to the website, you'll be able to view several pre-recorded videos of those non-profit leaders talking about their organization and the type of volunteers they need.
This website is designed to make it easier for people to find the community's volunteer needs in one single space. Organizers hope people take advantage of it.
"A lot of people are looking but don't know really where to look and especially during a Covid-time, this is going to give an opportunity hopefully for the community to see, 'hey yes, there's volunteer needs and here they are,'" said Paige Logan, member of Leadership Lafayette's Class 50 outreach committee.
Logan and Karissa Mooney join 42 other people in the community enrolled in Leadership Lafayette's Class 50. People who are interested in enhancing their leadership skills can sign up to be a part of the organization. Each class is given a final project to put their leadership skills to the test and this volunteer engagement website is Class 50's project.
Mooney is encouraging the community to take a look at the website and hopefully find a non-profit where they feel they could be a solution to the needs they're facing.
"We should all want our community to be a better place but know that you have something special to bring to the table,' said Mooney, a member of Leadership Lafayette's Class 50 marketing team. "Everybody has something that they can do to help others."
