LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - A Lafayette woman is facing a level five felony charge after police say she assaulted a public safety official. It happened Saturday morning around 11 a.m. Police officers were dispatched to IU Health Arnett for a battery complaint.
Court documents say Abigail Emerson was being treated at IU Health Arnett Hospital. A nurse was providing sedation medication to Emerson when she tried to leave the room. The nurse told police she stood in the doorway to prevent Emerson from leaving the room.
That's when the nurse says Emerson "struck her in the face with a closed fist." The nurse said she felt pain and police saw red marks on her face.
Emerson is facing one charge of Battery of a Public Safety Official. A level five felony has a sentencing range of one to six years.
