LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) -- This Christmas is coming with a free warm dinner for dozens of families in Greater Lafayette. Abounding Love Outreach Ministry wanted to provide for those in need.
"A lot of agencies do different things for Thanksgiving so Christmas was our thing," said Shonna Wilbourn, founder of Abounding Love Outreach Ministry.
A warm meal on Christmas can be hard to come by for people experiencing homelessness. That's why Wilbourn wanted to make sure she had the community covered.
"We wanted to make sure that the underserved, the less fortunate, the homeless who don't have what they need in their kitchens for Christmas are being served," said Wilbourn.
She fully shifted her ministry to community outreach this summer after Covid-19 safety measured made it hard for her to connect with people in need. In addition to a warm meal, Wilbourn also gave out blankets and other winter wear. Those in attendance are grateful for her taking this initiative. Wilbourn hopes this act of kindness carries a lasting impact on those she's serving.
"We are able to impact them today and to make sure that they have what they need today so that maybe they're sustained so that they'll see a tomorrow," said Wilbourn.
