Lafayette man arrested for Valentine's Day shooting charged with attempted murder

One of the three men arrested Saturday at Cambridge Estates Apartment Complex has been charged with attempted murder.

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — One of the three men arrested Saturday at Cambridge Estates Apartment Complex has been charged with attempted murder. Denzel Nelson and two others were arrested Saturday afternoon. Lafayette police believe the three to be suspects in a shooting at the Briarwood Apartments on Feb. 14. 

Nelson is charged with the following:

  • Attempted Murder (level 1 felony)
  • Aggravated Battery (Level 3 felony)
  • Battery by Means of a Deadly Weapon (level 5 felony)
  • Battery resulting in serious bodily injury (level 5 felony)
  • Possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon (level 4 felony)
  • Caring handgun without a license (class A misdemeanor)
  • Unlawful use of a firearm
  • Habitual offender

According to court documents, Police responded to a shooting on the afternoon of Feb. 14 at Windemere Drive in the Briarwood Apartment complex. Police found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim later identified Denzel Nelson as the person who shot him.
