LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — A busy Lafayette intersection will be closed over the summer for construction.
The project at Ninth and Kossuth streets will improve flooding issues at the intersection.
"For years, we've had issues, especially in the northeast corner of the intersection, with water getting into the businesses there,"
says Lafayette City Engineer Jeromy Grenard.
Grenard says construction crews will improve the storm sewers under the intersection. They'll also adjust the grade and add brick pavers to help with water runoff.
"We'll flatten out the intersection so that water can get away but also it will be able to percolate into the soil through the bricks," he says.
Construction will also add ADA compliant sidewalks and pedestrian signals. Grenard says stormwater user fees will pay for the project.
