LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — What was once an eyesore in Lafayette is now a new stop for visitors.
The Drury Inn & Suites celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon cutting Thursday.
The hotel is located on South Street near the Interstate 65 exits.
It has 180 rooms and more than 2,800 square feet of meeting and event space.
The building sets on the lot that was once home to a Knight's Inn which was torn down to make way for the new hotel.
Crews broke ground in late 2019, but the pandemic shut down construction for about a year.
General Manager Brian Zafian said it's a special day for the community and the company.
"We just couldn't be more excited to be opening our first hotel, post-pandemic, to be in the Lafayette market," Zafian said. "A strong market, you know, we have Purdue University here. There's a lot of great industry in the area."
The hotel employs 35 people, and its first official day of operation was July 30.
