LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI)-The Lafayette Fire department swore in seven new recruits. Kody Butz, Brian Clark, Tanner Compton, Cole Hauser, Eric Russell, Ryan Souligne, and Zachary Wolf were all pinned and sworn in on Thursday evening.
The recruits just finished 18 weeks of training in emergency medicine, fire fighting, and hazardous material training.
Lafayette Fire Chief Richard Doyle says these firefighters will serve a critical role in the community.
"In the Fire service today we are referred to as a multi-discipline agency," said Chief Doyle. "We do obviously fire fighting.. hazardous material response.. technical rescue response and a lot of EMS response."
Chief Doyle says several of these recruits will be replacing firefighters that are retiring this year.
