LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Lafayette Urban Ministry is opening its Winter Warming Station for the first time this season tonight at midnight.

The warming station provides a safe and warm place to stay for those trying to get out of the cold weather. It is also a second chance for the homeless in the Greater Lafayette Area to have a place to stay if they missed signing up for the Emergency Homeless Shelter. The station will operate from tonight to April 15th from midnight to 7 A.M each night.
LUM Program Director, David Heckert, anticipates the warming station will be well used through the next few days due to the incoming harsh winter weather.

"Usually we anticipate having higher numbers on the days where it's colder out, especially in the winter on the nights where it gets really cold, we tend to draw in quite a few who would normally sleep outside or sleep in cars. "

The warming station is located at the Lafayette Urban Ministry at 420 North Fourth Street.
