LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI)- Lafayette Jeff High School's new aquatic center is officially open. The 29,500 square foot center has eight lanes for competitive swimming and a 13-foot deep pool area for diving. The new facility also seats more spectators than ever before. The pool was designed to not only be an asset for the school but also the community.
Aquatics Director Jim Sharp says they hope to have community programs taking place in the new center by this summer.
"We want people to come in and be a part of this,” said Sharp. “We would like to see our competitive team grow of course which will enhance the high school program, but this is a great venue."
The old aquatic facility will remain open for 30 days. After that, it will be drained, filled in and turned in to a brand new weight room.
