LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — A Lafayette Jeff alum is looking to become the first judge of the new Tippecanoe Superior Court 7.
Dan Moore announced his candidacy as the Republican nominee Wednesday night in front of family and friends.
Moore graduated from Indiana University's law school and began private practice in a law firm in 2002.
He has served as the Magistrate Judge in Tippecanoe County since 2015.
Superior Court 7 will hear all different kinds of cases including misdemeanors,felonies, divorces and evictions.
Moore said his experience makes him the right person for the job.
"I have been trusted within the last five years by all of the elected judges to handle the judicial work now," said Moore. "That experience has positioned me to step in that court immediately on day one."
Jacque Chosnek announced on social media she will make an official announcement to run against Moore as a Democrat next week.
It's set for Jan. 16 at 5:30 p.m. at Sgt. Preston's.
