LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) -- News 18 is continuing its Salute to Women Series with a familiar face in the Lafayette community.
Cindy Murray is one of the 12 women being honored by the YWCA this year.

You don't do it for recognition," said Murray. "You do it because it's the right thing to do."
Since she can remember, Cindy Murray has been giving back to her community.
"It's just what I do," said Murray. "I was brought up that way."
Murray has served as Lafayette City Clerk for the last 16 years, leading the office while serving the public.
"We're so blessed that no matter what political party you are, we all get along," said Murray. "We work together."
Murray also served as president of the board for the YMCA during the building of its new facility. She also mentors leaders of tomorrow through the Mayor's Youth Council and is active with Boy Scouts of America.
"It's that feeling of accomplishment and knowing that someone else has benefited from it," said Murray.
That's why Murray is one of 12 women being honored during this year's YWCA's Salute to Women. It's the largest group to be honored since the YWCA started sponsoring the event 20 years ago.
"It's a huge honor to be considered a part of an elite, distinguished group of women. I never thought I would be in that class of people," said Murray.
This year's Salute to Women Banquet is set for Tuesday at the Trails Banquet Facility in West Lafayette.
