LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — The Lafayette Aviators announced Monday that they will be canceling their 2020 season. The Aviators were previously scheduled to play a limited-game slate at Purdue's Alexander Field, beginning in early July.
The decision to suspend the upcoming season came after Purdue announced the cancellation of all in-person events until August 1st. A waiver has been granted to the Aviators by the Prospect League for 2020, with plans to continue play in spring 2021.
Loeb Studium, where the Aviators have played since their first season in 2016, is currently under construction. Their contract to use Loeb Stadium expired after the last game of 2019.
The Aviators have placed a bid to use Loeb Stadium as WLFI previously reported, but the city has made no announcement on who will be granted rights to the ballpark.
