GREATER LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Lafayette Urban Ministry is inviting you to participate in the 5th annual Port of Hope event. The virtual event is happening Thursday, November 5th from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
This event raises money for the organization's Immigration Clinic. The clinic works with local immigrants navigate the red tape of becoming a U-S citizen.
Susan Brouillette runs the clinic. She was also a YWCA 2020 Salute to Women honoree. She said Greater Lafayette has a thriving immigrant population who contributes positively to our community. To her, Port of Hope is important for multiple reasons.
"It's not just the money, which is really really important, but it's just the affirmation from the community that says this is something we want to support and we want to keep around," she said.
The event contributes to about 90% of the Immigration Clinic's budget. She hopes people who don't donate still decide to tune in and learn more about the impact the clinic has.
