LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - The Lafayette Transitional Housing Center has officially opened the doors to a new engagement center. The new facility will provide expanded hours and programs for those experiencing homelessness.
People can also find help in finding a job or medical insurance. The $14.3 million facility, located on the corner of Union and 12th streets, will house LTHC on the first floor. The top two floors are apartments for 42 people who had previously been chronically homeless.
LTHC Executive Director Jennifer Layton said the larger building gives people the resources needed to get out of homelessness.
"It all starts with housing," said Layton. "With our employment center, our housing specialist, our case workers and our community health worker, there's going to be a lot things that are all taking place here in order to help people."
The Engagement Center will be open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. A 24-hour shelter is planned to open in late February.
