LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — Kristine Barnett was worried about a Facebook post and requested extra security from deputies at her initial hearing Friday morning, according to the Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office.
Michael and Kristine Barnett made an initial appearance in court Friday, accused in a strange Tippecanoe County child neglect case.
According to Lt. Brian Lowe, an Indianapolis area police department called the sheriff's office Thursday night saying Kristine Barnett saw a concerning post made by a "possible witness." The sheriff's office said it wasn't a direct threat at Kristine, but the office still provided extra security detail.
Lafayette police Sgt. Mike Brown said officers drove alongside Kristine Barnett from I-65 to downtown Lafayette Friday morning as a "security standby." A Tippecanoe County deputy then walked Kristine and her uncle into the courthouse.
Lowe said it is uncommon for the department to provide extra security like this. However he said it happens sometimes during high-profile cases.
