LPD: "Shooter interviewed and released" in Friday's 9th Street homicide

Lafayette Police have interviewed and released a person who they say is the shooter in Friday's fatal shooting on 9th Street.

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — Lafayette Police have interviewed and released a person who they say is the shooter in Friday's fatal shooting on 9th Street.

According to the Lafayette Police Department, that person was then released after providing a statement. Police have not released the person’s name. WLFI reached out to Lafayette Police Sgt. Matt Gard who said it is too early to tell if the shooting was in self-defense.

On Friday, March 2nd, Lafayette Police responded to a report of a shooting in the area of South 9th Street and Virginia Street. Officers arrived and located 30-year-old victim Thayer Summers. The case is being investigated by police as a homicide.
