LPD celebrates distinguished officer

The Lafayette Police Department celebrated the distinguished career of one of its retirees tonight.

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI)—Lieutenant Deputy Dave Payne celebrated 33 years of service Friday night. Payne started on the midnight shift in the reports department soon after leaving the Marines.

He gained inspiration to join the force from former officers, including West Lafayette Mayor John Dennis. L-P-D recognized Payne with several achievement awards after his years with the department. Payne says LPD kept him on his toes throughout his career.

"It means the world to me. I was fortunate enough like I said earlier that I was able to have change and challenges every few years and so it kept it interesting and I enjoyed my time there."

Payne is moving on from the police department to become purchasing manager for the City of Lafayette.
