Kokomo man found guilty in Lafayette armed burglary case

A Kokomo man charged in the armed burglary of a Lafayette home in 2016 was found guilty after a two-day trial that concluded Tuesday.

TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) — A Kokomo man charged in the armed burglary of a Lafayette home in 2016 was found guilty after a two-day trial that concluded Tuesday.

Court documents say on May 6, 2016, 27-year-old Kristopher Kanable and three other men approached a home on New Castle Road in Lafayette.

After knocking on the door a house sitter answered. Kanable then pointed a gun at the sitter and entered the home with the others.

Once inside, the victim was tied up while Kanable and the other men stole firearms, electronics, and cash from the home. The house sitter’s vehicle was also stolen from the garage.

The three co-defendants in the case were Xzavier Jordan, who was previously sentenced to 21 years with the DOC, Brenton Hoppes and Jason White, both of whom are scheduled for sentencing on Nov. 30.

Kanable was found guilty in all 10 charges listed below:


• Conspiracy to Commit Burglary, Level 2 Felony (10-30 years)
• Burglary with a Deadly Weapon, Level 2 Felony
• Conspiracy to Commit Robbery, Level 3 Felony
• Robbery with a Deadly Weapon, Level 3 Felony
• Confinement with a Deadly Weapon, Level 3 Felony
• Theft, Level 6 Felony
• Theft, Level 6 Felony
• Auto Theft, Level 6 Felony
• Theft, A Misdemeanor
• Unlawful Use of a Firearm, sentencing enhancement (5-20 years)
